Common treatment areas include upper lip, area around or adjacent to the eyes (crows feet), neck, above the bridge of the nose, ‘laugh lines’, full face, decolette (lower neck/upper chest) and hands.

The only feeling is a slight heat or ‘pinching’ sensation that lasts fractions of a second. A topical anesthetic is sufficient to maintain comfort during the treatment. After a treatment, you may experience a sensation like a mild sunburn and can use cold packs to relieve the sensation.

The majority of people notice measurable results shortly after the first treatment. Each patient will have a specific protocol for retreatment including interval and number of treatments required to accomplish the treatment objective. Post treatment response is directly related to the individual, treatment objectives and settings of the system. In general, the more aggressive the treatment, the longer it takes the skin to heal. Thanks to the precise control of the SmartXide DOT SmartPulse technology, minimally invasive treatments can be performed which result in mild post treatment erythema (redness) which only lasts for a few days after a treatment. With more aggressive treatments, post treatment erythema could last 4 – 7 days or longer. Makeup can be used to cover the redness, and in all cases it is recommended to begin with the lowest treatment settings to accomplish a minimally invasive treatment targeting measurable results, as your first treatment.

Standard precautions including limiting sun exposure and extreme physical activity for a period of time immediately after treatment. You should not exercise vigorously for one week immediately after your treatment and if you exercise outside, ensure proper application of sun screen after that. All post treatment instructions will be discussed in your pre-treatment and posttreatment consultation.

The number of treatments required depends on the individual condition of the skin and the desired treatment objective. Results are cumulative and treatment interval and number of treatments required will be discussed during the initial and ongoing consultations.

Given the minimally invasive nature of these treatments, facilitated by precise control over energy, dwell time and density, and the fact that clinical outcomes are cumulative, the logical approach is to begin with conservative settings for your skin type and condition. With infinite control over the device settings, the technician can always increase the settings for subsequent treatments.

You shouldn’t have any laser treatments if you are pregnant, have been on Accutane in the past 6 months, have a history of compromised healing or keloid scars, or are on medications that make you photo-sensitive.
